Wi1 publishes in Information Systems Frontiers

Hot off the press—Cyber-physical systems (CPS) are considered as a general purpose technology, which has a significant role as an enabler for the digital transformation of industrial value creation. For this reason, our research interest was drawn towards this topic and in our recently in the journal Information Systems Frontiers published foundational paper “Cyber-Physical Systems in the Context of Industry 4.0: A Review, Categorization and Outlook”, we systematically analyzed the current state of knowledge on CPS. To achieve this, we compiled over 2,000 sources and, based on their content, created a categorization with almost 250 topic areas. The multidisciplinary author consortium of the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen Nürnberg and the Technische Universität München, namely Sascha Julian Oks, Dr. Max Jalowski, Dr.-Ing. Michael Lechner, Stefan Mirschberger, Prof. Dr.-Ing Marion Merklein, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Birgit Vogel-Heuser and Prof. Dr. Kathrin M. Möslein, has thereby combined the perspectives of information systems, computer science and engineering and categorized the topic area for the further advancement and implementation of Industry 4.0 activities. The results are summarized and presented considering the specific requirements of both academia and practice.
