Dissertation Topic
Leading the Crowd: How to lead a crowd successfully
My dissertation, which is in an early status, focuses collective crowdsourcing platforms. On these platforms, assignments previously performed within an organization are, in the form of an open call, assigned to a large and undefined number of collectively contributing external problem solvers. The problem solvers self-select the provided tasks and obtain some kind of reward for successfully solving a problem. This includes - but is not limited to - different forms of tasks, which differ in their complexity, granularity and in the amount of reward obtained.
Taking a mixed method approach including case study research and field experiments my research aims to answer the following questions:
• Which tasks, previously performed within an organization, can be outsourced to the crowd?
• How can the tasks be successfully outsourced to the crowd?
• In which ways can a company lead the crowd, in order to satisfy the company needs?
