Many companies hesitate to reveal their internal activities to ensure the IT security, because the want to keep others from recognizing weak spots and entry points for unauthorized access. Doing so, however, they also make it difficult to learn from one another and improve their solutions together. When it comes to IT security, open innovation approaches can therefore not proceed in the same way as elsewhere. They need to take the concerns of the companies in account and design specific settings that allow an exchange despite all secrecy.

We invite students to write a thesis in this area that performs an empirical survey of the willingness of companies to engage in different forms open innovation and the design criteria that have to be considered in order to satisfy their concerns. Students who want to look more deeply into the technical aspects of IT security are also very welcome.
