The joint research project of FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg’s chair of Information Systems, Innovation and Value Creation and the insurance company “NÜRNBERGER Versicherung” explores in the context of Open Innovation and future of work how open, flexible and multi-functional workplace designs impact existing work processes, employees and the overall organization and thereby lead to future workspace concepts. By rebuilding existing, closed cell offices into open, multi-functional offices that consist of different work zones and can be individually used  by employees according to their work processes and tasks (e.g. quiet areas for concentration work next to open areas for efficient interaction), direct impacts on the work processes, the employees and the overall organization can be measured and analyzed. The development of the new rooms and the creation of the future workspace concept is based on a pilot and on active user involvement with the goal to increase the creativity, motivation, communication, satisfaction, productivity and well-being of the employees. Through the cooperation with the “NÜRNBERGER Versicherung” valuable insights into the insurance industry and theoretical and practical implications for the future of work are generated.
